Deborah Estelle Philips plays actress Charley on the Indie Websoap The Cavanaughs. Charley’s the best friend of Maddie (played by Cwennen Corral) and  is prolly the most tortured character in a way that most drama happens to her and yet she finds her strength to get through it. In Season 1, she came out as a lesbian at her wedding and was promptly ridiculed and banished by her parents. In Season 2, Charley vowed to win her parents acceptance by making them proud in performing with The Cavanaughs. Season 3 will be Charley’s most challenging. Just as she is making strides, her character will have the rug pulled under from her as she becomes the pawn of her Executive Producer Hope (Played by Camille Bennett).  Before the drama gets to unfold, let’s meet Deborah Estelle Philips as she takes her turn at The Cavanaughs Q&A.

How are you alike or different from the character you play?
Charley and I are alike in many ways.  We both have a lot of love to give and have had to pay the price for it many times.  A lot of times when I read the scripts, I’m like “Ok Adrian, are you spying on me.” It’s unreal how much I can relate to this girl.  I actually did get married though… a man…….. and I did not leave him at the altar.
How did you land your part?
I was casted in the original pilot a few years ago and have had the privilege to be a part of the Cavanaugh family ever since.  The director at the time [Joshua James] and I were finishing up a project while he was getting ready to start The Cavanaughs, then he introduced me to Adrian Morales, our awesome Producer/Writer/Actor who casted me as Allison Mae the black adopted daughter to Miss Noreen Cavanaugh.  Alley Mae is the sitcom character Charley plays in the web series.

Tell us a memorable moment or a blooper you had on set?
There are so many memorable moments working on set with this cast. Right now, we rarely get a chance to all work together because we have so many wonderful storylines going on.  But every once in a while we have a Cavanaugh moment where we all come together ready to save the day.  This one particular scene had the whole gang head out of the bar into Hope’s office and threaten to quit the show.  So we all run out in a drunken stupor into the car…..and I can just remember seeing this huge red wig sticking out of the window…….such a Scooby Doo moment!
What do you think the secret to a good life is ?
I feel like the secret to a good life is no secret at all.  I know there is a Creator who has a divine plan for all of us and the secret to unlocking the mystery is Love.
Would you hang out with your character ?
Absolutely! Charley really is an amazing person who goes out of her way to make a difference in the lives of the people around her.  Who wouldn’t want someone like that around.
