Grant Landry has been one of The Cavanaughs most popular actors, with his good looks and acting chops. In the series finale, fans were divided when the character of Mark opted to pursue his acting career than mend his troubled relationship with Scott (Daniel Rhyder). Since wrapping the series, Grant has been been keeping busy. Next up on his plate is the indie flick THE BETTER HALF. Grant shares his thoughts on the end of THE CAVANAUGHS and his new life with THE BETTER HALF.

The Cavanaughs has completed its webseries run. What were some of your favorite moments?

The Cavanaugh’s had such an amazing cast but it was also a large one. Over the course of four seasons certain characters fell into their own little subplots and circles so it was always great when we had those scenes that involved EVERYONE. You can only imagine what Ginger Snappz (Noreen Cavanaugh) is like at 6am in front of an audience.

How do you feel about the character Mark leaving the gang, Scott and choosing to pursue his acting career ?

I know a lot of people were upset by it but I think it was true to who Mark was. It’s a choice a lot of people have to make in life – career or love. Mark made his although in his defense for those who think he should have chosen love Scott did hurt him in the end, even if Scott had the best intentions. It’s hard because after four seasons with these guys they do feel very much like part of my own family. I want Mark to be happy.

Regarding the Better Half. It’s the story about a gay couple and their journey as they adopt a baby. How did you get involved with the project?

We originally tried to get this off the ground over a year ago. I had auditioned for the project which was originally just shooting a few scenes of Tony and Let and trying to raise money to make a feature. I just formed a connection with the piece and with the amazing writer and director, Michelle Clay, who really made me believe in this story and this project and I’ve been working with it ever since.

What’s it like to work with a baby?

Ok, I have never worked with a baby before and let me tell you I was a little nervous. But once you see Avie you will get why nervous gave way to one giant AWWWWWWWWWWW. I’m assuming we are getting seriously spoiled on this set because all this baby does is smile and laugh and look absolutely adorable. I’ve been told that this is not the norm (my own parents have informed me I was not as delightful).

Tell us about the character Tony. How can you relate to his experiences.

The great thing about playing Tony is how different he is from Mark. Where Mark chose career Tony will always choose family, although I think Tony thinks of his cases as part of his family sometimes (he’s a social worker), so there is some gray area/overlap. A lot of Tony’s life though is from a different path than mine; Tony is settled down and wants and obviously gets a child during the course of the movie. It’s a different world than mine.

And a last lil sidenote, its been noted you will be reuniting with a few co-stars, will you be sharing scenes with your former Cavanaughs co-stars Emily Sandack (Rebecca) and Daniel Rhyder (Scott)?

I’m super excited to get to act with these two amazing talents again. Emily will be playing my sister whereas Daniel plays one of my friends that I force Leo to have dinner with once a month. So in a way we will get that Mark/Scott reunion on screen!

On completeing the four seasons of The Cavanaughs…

I would love to just thank each and every one of you. If you caught just one episode or were there from the beginning, thank you for being a part of our family. It was a wonderful ride and to all of you I say, one last time, CHEERS!

Now that this story has been completed, it’s the appropriate time to look back and reflect. As I go through every individual, I will share some stories and give a little insight to my cast, of whom I have so blessed to have spent the time working and getting to know them. The Cavanaughs will hold a special place in my heart, I feel honored to work amongst individuals who have all had a special place in their heart to be a part of an ensemble. So hope you enjoy these as I have had looking back with a loving smile. First up, our fearless leader Ginger Snappz aka Michael Womack.

Ginger

How did I met Ginger Snappz?

Hmm, I’m sure it was at a place called Mickey’s in West Hollywood. We had friends in common. I think off the bat there was a mutual admiration. He made me laugh. And I knew that he was the real deal.

How did Ginger Snappz land the role of Noreen Cavanaugh?

The role of Noreen Cavanaugh was played by another actor in the stage versions and on the original TV pilot. However the actor also ran a restaurant and when we started to prep the webseries, he opted to drop out to focus on his other flourishing career. For a good day, I was stressed on finding another actor. Cwennen Corral (Maddie) immediately said, call Michael Womack, saying he was a good man with a huge personality and that he would fit in just nicely. So we got in contact and it all worked out just nicely. I still remember his first day, where his character was introduced playing strip poker! You just knew there was something special happening.

Favorite Moments :

Michael impressed me right off the bat. He was a team player and so easy to work with. He never complained, if he did, I never heard it. Whenever someone new was on set, you could count on him to welcome the newbies. You could be sure to hear and love his infectious laugh. Well here are some thought of my favorite moments from each season!

*Season 1:
There was fun moment I liked with Ginger when his character was recounting Aaron Spelling stories mixing fact with fiction. Having drinks with friends and telling stories is just one of those moments where the audience gets invested with a character.

*Season 2:
In the finale, as this ragtag group of friends celebrated on the eve of the production of their sitcom. Noreen toasted and lead the group in toasts, where she lead the group to realize that what they have created was a family. Actor Ginger Snappz made the scene so sincere with his honest delivery.

*Season 3:
The one scene that stands out for me is when Noreen summoned Charlotte after Charley had disappeared. I remembered when I first saw the completed footage and just smiled at Ginger’s acting. To see the character Noreen comes to Charley’s defense was delightful. I am pretty sure at the time Ginger was unaware that I was planning to reveal Charley as his daughter, though I did drop several hints in season 1. His last lines threatening Charlotte were golden!

(cue to 9:59)

*Season 4
Ginger had a knock out last season. Being kidnapped, reconciling w her daughter, learning who was responsible. What I loved was when Noreen invited her kidnapper Marlena (Georgan George) to Maddie’s wedding in an act of forgiveness. Ginger gave a simple sincere and believable performance that just made me smile.

(cue to 2:25)

Parting words :

I believe what is meant to be is meant to be. I feel that Ginger Snappz aka Michael Womack was meant to play Noreen Cavanaugh. A fun fact is that Noreen is named after an aunt who passed away from Lupus. She was a force to be reckoned with, who would always tell it as it is, sometimes bluntly and sometimes with a sincere voice. Michael brought his awesome personality and is much loved by the cast and crew. His character was a leader, and so is Michael/Ginger. And he does it with class, with humor and with much love. Thank you for bringing this character to life and its no wonder you became a fan favorite. You are just an exceptional human being. Cheers!

Camille Bennett Wilson (Hope) - The Cavanaughs

November 29th marked the last air date for Camille Bennett, who has played the devious Hope since September 2011. We at The Cavanaughs have enjoyed having Camille as part of our cast. Camille is embarking on a new chapter in her life – motherhood! Cheers Camille! We love you and wish you the best!

Will you miss the character of Hope?
Of course! Playing the villain has been a dream for me. It’s so much more exciting to play someone with such complexity. She really could be so evil and it was so fun to see her story line play out.

What are some of your fondest memories filming ?
The cat fight with Maddie at the end of last season! The actress who plays Maddie (Cwennen Corral) is just lovely… so screaming and lunging at her was beyond comical. Also, Grand Landry, who plays Mark continually had me in a sleeper hold between takes.

Ep311C

Do you have a favorite scene?
The scene where Hope gets drunk at the cast party or where she takes a bullet. Both were very fun to film.

How do you feel about Hope’s change after the coma?
I would like to believe its legitimate, but even I don’t trust her 🙂

Do you feel she’s being genuine with Justin and Mark?
I feel that Hope will ALWAYS have something up her sleeve.

How do you feel about Hope’s exit?
I think there is more to the story. She is still keeping secrets and who knows how she could bombshell her way back into the lives of the Cavanaughs.

What’s next for Camille?
Like my evil counterpart Hope, I, along with my very sweet husband, are welcoming our first child. I was pregnant the entire last season of the Cavanaughs. So while Hope would fake a baby, that bump is the real deal!
